Meethi Malai Matar Recipe

Meethi Malai Matar is a rich, creamy and melts-in-your-mouth recipe. It’s one of those recipes which you will find on a restaurant menu card or in a wedding menu. Since it has got Malai, it is a bit sweet in taste and creamier in texture. There might be different ways of making it, but I make it the simplest way and it tastes absolute yum.

You can try this recipe when you have guests coming over or you want to just go with a single dish. You can have this with Rotis or Parathas and you won’t need any other dish to go along. Super easy and quick to make, the best part about this recipe is it requires very fewer ingredients.

If you have eaten Meethi Malai Matar in a restaurant, you must have noticed the color being white-ish in color, since I have added turmeric/haldi, it’s looking a bit yellow. The color of the recipe is totally up to you. You can add turmeric or can avoid it.

Instructions
  1. Take fresh meethi leaves, wash them properly under tap water. Make sure it's all clean. Drain all the excess water and roughly chop it using a knife or you can even use a scissor.
  2. In case you are using fresh peas, boil them for 2-3 minutes so that they get cooked properly. If you are using frozen peas, take them out from the fridge and let them come to normal temperature and then wash them with normal water.
  3. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add cumin seeds and grated ginger. Sauté them for seconds and then add chopped meethi leaves.
  4. Keep stirring it on low flame for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Once you see Meethi leaves are getting cooked, add peas and keep mixing.
  5. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder {optional, only if you want the sabzi to look yellow}, garam masala and salt. Mix everything well. Let the veggies cook for a minute.
  6. Add fresh malai and keep stirring it on low flame. Let it cook well.
  7. Finally add sugar and tomato ketchup. It will give that sweet taste to the recipe. You can adjust the sweetness as you like.
  8. Crush Kasoori meethi between your palm and sprinkle. Mix it well.
  9. Serve it with roti, paratha or naan. Your Meethi Malai Matar is ready to serve.
