Kale Chane ki Khichdi is a delicious and wholesome recipe that is not only filling but healthy too. It’s the perfect recipe to treat your kids with, just don’t say Khichdi otherwise they will run away. Jokes apart, I made this Kale Chane ki khichdi out of no-where, this recipe was not on my head but I was bored with the sookhe kale chane and the gravy one too that I decided to give Kale Chane a healthy twist and made this Khichdi.
Loaded with flavor this khichdi is not your regular khichdi. It’s spicy, it’s yummy and the best part is – it’s a One-Pot Meal recipe that can be enjoyed with Boondi Raita. My husband loved it and we enjoyed it while watching the rain. Uff, the combination is to die for.
Lip-smacking Kale Chane ki khichdi is a perfect recipe to try during Monsoon or when the weather is chilly outside. With the same process, you can make Kale Chane ke pulav. I have added Onion-tomatoes in this Khichdi recipe, you can add peas or any other vegetable of your choice. Else, you can make it without onion-garlic too.
Kale Chane ki Khichdi can be made less spicy or moderate spicy. In our household, we like it a bit spicy and then have it with Raita to balance the flavors. This Khichdi recipe can be made in 15-20 minutes and doesn’t require that much preparation. Easy, quick, and simple to make – the perfect recipe to try on days when you don’t want to do much.

- In a pressure cooker or a lid Handi. I have used a Lid Handi as shown above. Heat oil, add jeera, hing, Tez patta, and dried red chili. Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped onion and cook it till it becomes soft and transparent. It's time to add tomatoes and cook them too.
- Once the onion and tomatoes are cooked, add all the masala. Red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, chhole masala, and salt. Sauté.
- It's time to add boiled kale chana. Cook the boiled chana for 1 minute in the masala.
- It's time to add soaked rice. Drain the water and add rice to the mixture. Toss it gently with hands. Do not over toss it otherwise the rice will break.
- Add water and close the lid. Let it cook on low flame for 10-12 minutes or till rice gets cooked properly.
