Movies and Popcorn go hand-in-hand. Whether it’s a movie marathon at home or you have gone out to watch a movie, Popcorn is one thing which we all love to munch on.
The smell of freshly popped popcorn is absolutely amazing. Making popcorn at home is pretty easy and duh, we all know how to pop them but since I don’t like the regular salty popcorn, I thought let’s play with some new flavors and give the regular salty popcorn a twist!
You must have came across varieties of Popcorn, be it salty, caramel or cheese Popcorn. Oh-My-God, Yum! – For this post I have made two types of Popcorn.
1. Salted Caramel Popcorn – This flavor has got the perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. It has got that toffee taste to it, because of the caramelized sugar. If you have got a sweet tooth, this one is for you. Perfect thing to munch on, and trust me it’s addictive, “No one can eat just one”.
2. Maggi Masala Butter Popcorn – Aha! I am a huge fan of Maggi Masala and who isn’t? I thought why not adding it to my Popcorn and voila, it tastes Oh-My-My. I have added couple of more spices to get that perfect tangy flavor. Keep on reading.
Making Popcorn at home is very easy and requires just couple of ingredients. For this recipe, I have used the regular Act-II Popcorn, which is easily available in the market. But you can use corn kernels too.
You can make more variety and treat your friends with it. Next time, plan a movie marathon at home and make a huge tub of these Popcorn to munch on.
Let’s start Popping! 😀
Ingredients
2 Packets of Act II Popcorn
2 tablespoons Butter
25 gm Sugar
2 tablespoons Water
1 teaspoon Honey
a pinch salt
1–2 drops vanilla essence
1 packet Maggi Masala
a pinch Sambhar Masala
a pinch red chili powder
Steps
- In a pressure cooker, pop the Popcorn which comes in the Act-II packet. I use this because it comes with butter and everything, you just have to follow the instructions and make it. Just pour the Act-II packet into the cooker and cover it with any plate leaving a little space left. Do this on medium flame and you will see popcorn will start popping. You can use corn kernels too, just add a bit of oil or butter in the cooker before you pop.
- Once the popcorn is done, divide them into two parts. One for Caramel one and another for the Maggi Masala one.
For Caramel Popcorn.
- Heat a non stick pan. Add sugar, water and butter, stir all this on a low flame. Add vanilla essence and a pinch of salt. Now add honey and stir it for 2-3 minutes on low flame. You will see a beautiful amber-golden color, it means the caramel sauce is ready.
- Pour this caramel sauce in one of the popcorn bowls and quickly toss it. You have to be very quick since the sugar gets caramelized easily. Also be very careful, because the caramel sauce is very hot.
- Once you have tossed, transfer the caramelized popcorn into a plate and spread it. The idea is to separate them quickly before they get solid.
- Salted Caramel Popcorn is ready!
For Maggi Masala Butter Popcorn
- Melt a teaspoon of butter and add it to the 2nd batch of the popcorn.
- Now sprinkle maggi masala, sambhar powder and a pinch of red chili powder. You can adjust these masala according to your taste.
- Toss it well and munch on.
Happy Popping!
